Totoro Crossing!

Suddenly I have all sorts of ideas for knitted and crocheted holiday gifts, but, well, pretty limited time to get things done!  I have a few geeky gifts finished, which I’ll show you after the holidays, and purchased yarn for a few more yesterday.  I’m pretty excited about ALL OF THEM!!!!

In the meantime, here’s a shot of a design I just finished for my Threadless shop.  It’s a parody of an animal crossing sign, but instead of a deer or ducks, etc., it’s a trio of Totoros and a couple of Susuwatari– soot sprites.  I need to order myself a sample!

I’ve been very busy lately working on designs for my artist shop.  If I’m not subbing at a school, I’m at my dining table, drawing and scheming.  OH!  We tested out some Xp-pen tablets at Kumoricon and almost immediately bought one.  It has upped my design game, as it was hard to draw and color on paper and have the designs transfer nicely/bright enough once I scanned them into my computer.  I suppose I’m slow to the game, but creating digitally is a game-changer.

Anyway, check out my shop!  https://henryx4.threadless.com/ .  Happy knitting, drawing, etc!!

Tweedy stripey!

Yay! I finished knitting the second sleeve of my Tweedy Stripey this morning, then knitted the collar this afternoon. I did so many changes to this sweater (gauge, smaller neckline, longer sleeves) that until it’s blocked and seamed, I’ll remain slightly nervous. But everything seems good, and I hope to seam and block in the morning! Here’s a sneak peak:

I was so worried I’d run out of purple, but there’s a sizable amount left. It’ll go into the scrap stash and most likely become part of a charity hat. My local library has a basket to donate hats, and from which people can take a hat if they need one. I like how they’ve cut out the middle person!

Happy knitting!

Tweedy-stripey

This sweater is a KAL with my SF knitting group! It’s been nice to keep my connection with them while I have only been able to make it to knit night a few times here in Portland.

The Tweedy-stripey pattern is easy and fun! I started a few weeks ago and am now on the first sleeve. I think I’m pretty close to knitting the sleeve edge! I just love how bright it is, and owe my husband a big thank you for steering me away from gray, dark gray, and black! These colors ought to keep me cheerful during the drizzling winter months of the Pacific Northwest.

In non-knitting news, we found a lovely hike in southern Washington today. I love how different it is from Northern California!

I hope you had a nice weekend too!

New endeavor!

Oh my goodness, where to start?   Biggest news first: we moved over the summer!  We left San Francisco after having been there for about 12 years, meaning I lived in the SF Bay Area for about 14-15 years.  We now live in Portland, Oregon, where we are closer to family, mountains, and so much green (in more ways than one, ha!).   Aaaaaaaaand we can live in a house with a yard versus squeezing the four of us into a 2-bedroom apartment with no outdoor space in SF.

Over the past two years I worked as an elementary school teacher, but I wasn’t able to secure a position here for this school year (I hear from teacher contacts that it’s a particularly hard year for new hires), so I’m subbing.   However, instead of taking subbing all that seriously, I’ve been working on some fun designs for my new shop on Threadless.com.  My specialty is turning out to be designs based on Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli characters and ideas, but there are also random geeky or pop culture topics such as Godzilla, Galactus, Queen/cycling, and Stranger Things.  I am having so much fun with this that it shouldn’t be allowed!!!!  Please check it out!  https://www.threadless.com/discover/s/henryx4 .

I will do a knitting update soon as well as an Important Event Update, as I have finished a few pairs of socks, a veritable shlanket (shawl + blanket), and a Calorimetry, http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTcalorimetry.html and have started a new sweater.   I am seriously enjoying wearing my handknits here in the Pacific Northwest!

Happy knitting!

A vacation and a new sweater!

Hello there! I have a few things to share today! First, we took advantage of my spring break to spend a few days in Yosemite National Park- it was warm and gorgeous! I highly recommend a couple of days there!

About a week before the trip, I finished my Worsted Boxy sweater ! I thought it would be nice to get pics of it in Yosemite!

I also finally got some modeled shots of my Blue Whale shawl! I thought it might look neat layered over the purple sweater, but I’ve changed my mind!

It was a great short trip away from the city. We were even able to play in the snow up on Badger Pass, so there was plenty to keep the kids occupied! I have to spend the rest of my break doing serious things, so I’m extra glad that we managed to get away for a bit.

Happy knitting!

Stitches West 2019

Today I went to Stitches West with a friend, a friend of hers, and a friend of her friend. It turned out to be a great combination and we had a fantastic day. Here are some of my highlights:

Knits like these grabbed my attention all day!

In addition to having gorgeous yarns and samples, this booth also had these cool post-it-like pattern reminders you could take when you found something you liked. I predict this will be more widespread next year!

Mother Bear drop off!!!!

I love these rainbow braids!!!!

Cool!!!

We caught a little bit of Steven Abe’s talk about shawls, color, etc!

These will become a Fine Your Fade! I’m very excited!

My coworker’s bestie owns this yarn shop in Pacifica- I haven’t been able to make it to the shop, so I was excited to meet her at stitches today!

The rest of my loot!

It was a super fun day! I’m pleased with my purchases and it was nice meeting new people!
